Continental Cup: 2nd group stage preview

2014.10.17. 11:08 |

This coming weekend DAB.Docler will be traveling to Brasov, Romania but not for a MOL League game as they normally would but to play in the second phase of the Continental Cup where they will be trying to advance to the next round by winning this round robin group stage.

The way the tournament is set up is that each round is a group stage and if you win that group you (or int the case of the third phase, the top two) advance to the next round. Last year Dunaújváros started in the same 2nd  round as they are this season and advanced to the 3rd where they finished in third place.

Along with the two MOL League teams the Polish champion KH Sanok and Latvian champion Prizma Riga will be battling to win this group. DAB and Brasov will be familiar with each other but Sanok have two former MOL League forwards in Jordan Knox who played for Miskolc last season and found the net just as often as he found the penalty box, and former NHL forward Mike Danton played with Csíkszereda for part of the season. Riga is a team that is made up of just Latvians and the team is expected to play in a Russian style.

It will not be easy for Dunaújváros to advance from this group that has four great teams but DAB.Docler has been stringing games together and will be familiar with one team and with Sanok having a number of Canadians that could fit well for coach Don MacLean’s team.
