
Volán was hoping to end their losing streak at three games and start to move back up the standings if they could pick up six points.
RedBull-Volán 6-1
Volán was on a three game losing streak coming into their game in Salzburg, Rob Pallin’s team has had a number of injuries. Bartalis, and Saurer have yet to play this season with Frank Banham playing once, Aaron Broklehurst is still out with a broken hand and Attila Orbán picked up an injury during the week. Volán traveled with only five defencmen and Zoltán Hetényi was starting in net. The home team struck first deep in the opening period on a power play goal, they followed this up with a second power play goal in the second minute of the second period. RedBull was up 3-0 before Volán scored their first goal of the game when Chris Francis set up Tamás Sárpátki for the goal. The home team scored a shorthanded goal in the last minute of the second period and two more in the third to make the final 6-1.
Volán-Linz 1-2
After getting blown out in Salzburg Fehérvár had the opportunity to pick up a win on home ice against Linz. Judd Blackwater was added to the injured list making it four forwards and two defencemen out, Ferenc Kocsis made is EBEL season debut and Miklós Rajna got the start in net. After a scoreless first period Volán scored first taking advantage of a power play. Chris Francis ripped a shot from the blueline that the Linz goalie saved but Ryan Martinelli put the rebound into the back of the net for the goal. Rajna stood tall for the rest of the second period and deep into the third period. Fehérvár picked up a number penalties in the closing minutes which led Linz to score two 5 on 3 goals in the last minute of play 23 seconds apart, as they snuck out with the three points.
Fehérvár coach Rob Pallin: We have six guys out but our team played great, we have a lot of doubters but we showed a lot of heart today. My hat goes of to the guys that showed up and played great.
