Csanád Erdély was drafted by the Sioux Falls Stampede in the United States Hockey League (USHL) Entry draft.

After finding out he was drafted Csanád had the following to say “This is a great feeling that they know my name in North America, I'm surprised because I didn’t know I was on a draft list, I haven't really had time to think about all of this.”

After the 2014 season a number of Western Hockey League teams were looking at possibly drafting him in the annual CHL import draft, in the end Tamás Láday was the only Hungarian drafted, going to the Spokane Chiefs.

This past year Erdély put the disappointment behind him and had an outstanding season as he passed up a number of personal goals he had set for himself. He finished with 8 points in 47 EBEL matches with Fehérvár AV 19, at one point playing on the second line. This was good enough to catch the eye of Rich Chernomaz and getting a call up to the Hungarian national team. He ended up having a great world championship in Krakow as he started the tournament on one line with János Hári and Balázs Sebők.

The USHL is the top junior league in the U.S. and regularly has players drafted into the NHL straight from the league. The Stampede are currently still in the USHL playoffs and have a good chance at winning the title.

With Láday going to Spokane last season this is back to back seasons that a player has been drafted by a North American junior league that Tyler Dietrich has coached in Fehérvár. “I am really excited and proud of him, it is great to see that Hungarian players are making a name for themselves not only in Europe but in North Americas as well.”
