The highest ranked Hungarian referee has made his decision, Péter Gebei will be officiating in one of the top leagues in the world as he leaves the EBEL for the Russian based KHL.

“Dear athletes, fans, friends and hockey followers!
After a period of long negotiations I was able to come to an agreement with the KHL where I will be continuing my career as a full time referee starting from the 2016-17 season. I will be leaving the EBEL after nine seasons during which I officiated over 370 matches from which I learned something in every one of them and I was constantly improving. All six finals that I called were great memories and I believe that the I work I put in I was able to raise the level of play. I would like to thank everyone for everything that has happened up until now, the people that helped me during my career up until now. The fans who motivated me with when I was criticised and pushed me to be better. The coaches and players whom without there wouldn't be any hockey and I work for them from game to game. Last but not least I would like to thank all of the Hungarian referees, I will never forget where I came from and I am still one of you.

I have always been proud that to represent our refereeing as a Hungarian! I would like to wish everyone a wonderful summer, and for the players and the referees an excellent preseason preparation and an injury free season, and for the fans some exciting games.

Péter Gebei #11”
