Gergő Nagy: I owe a debt to Volán

After a two year excursion to the new world that had him playing in the CHL, ECHL and AHL Gergő Nagy is back playing in Fehérvár with the team he made his senior debut.

Nagy left Fehérvár during the 2011-12 to go to Miskolc for a year and a half, then he had a short stop in Nové Zámky before making it to the CHL. In North America he had success with the Quad City Mallards of CHL where he finished second in the team in scoring. During the season the Chicago Wolves of the AHL took notice of him and called him up during the season. This past season he started with the team but because of playing time he was sent down to the ECHL affiliate in Kalamazoo Michigan. With the K-Wings Nagy had an excellent season where he finished one point shy of the team scoring leader and averaged a point a game in the playoffs.

After the season ended Nagy had contract offers from a number of North American teams as well as European teams as well. “I had interest from the DEL club Krefeld, the coach had talked to István Sofron who plays there, in fact the coach and I have the same agent as well, in the end things didn’t work out but this doesn't mean that I wont try to go abroad again in the future.” said Gergő Nagy to Nemzeti Sport. In the end it looks like he thought Fehérvár was the best option for him. “I had been in contact with Fehérvár head coach Rob Pallin since the world championships, he was telling me that if I do sign with the club I would have a key role for the team. Later I talked with Gábor Ocskay who liked the idea. I feel that I have a debt to Fehérvár that I need to pay off. It is important to me that I will be playing at home with my friends and family close by, also the opportunity to be back with regularly with the national team, which I missed.”

After representing Hungary at three world championships, including in the A Pool in Switzerland, he had to miss the last two because of his North American commitments. The last two seasons before the national team training camp head coach Rich Chernomaz stated that if the season ends in time Gergő Nagy has a spot on the team. “I hope that we can make it to the EBEL semifinals, perform well in the Olympic qualifiers with Hungary and stay in the A Pool.”
