After a day of testing and the first on ice practice session, national team head coach Tibor Marton talked to icehockey.hu.

“We tried to call in every girl that has a chance of playing in the senior national team and the U18 team as well and a couple of younger girls where we thought it would be good for them to be in the camp and to develop and learn from the older girls. We managed to have 40 girls in camp, there were some players who had to miss because of injuries, club commitments as well as work and school related commitments.” Marton followed this up by talking about the first part of the training camp.

“The opening day of camp was all testing with today and tomorrow the roster split into two squads, the two teams practice separately and have an afternoon scrimmage both today and tomorrow. After this we will trim the roster down to 22 girls who will be on the final roster for when we play Austria on Monday.

I think Austria will be pretty much playing with roster that they will have for the World Championships. It is no secrete that we will be using the game to scout them and to get as much information on them as well can so that we are prepared when we face them later in the year.”

Marton also talked about how the girls have been playing on the ice, “I have gotten back more than what I expected and I have been satisfied with the work the girls have put in.”

The roster will be cut to 22+2 after Saturday’s scrimmage with the team traveling to Kapfenberg on Monday where they will face Austria at 13:30
