A legal issue had arisen during the expansion of the MOL League whether the Hungarian Ice Hockey Federation could legally go over the head of the league to make any decisions and if in fact so was they breach of any contract between the Hungarian Ice Hockey Federation and the Romanian Ice Hockey Federation.
The MOL Leagues clubs wanted to know if the HIHF federation could decide what teams can play in the league or can not regardless of what the clubs had decided.
To understand legally who could do what and to clear this matter up lawyers were brought in to untangle the web. In the end everything was summed up in three compact points.
-
The HIHF had the right to make the decision of adding two teams to the league
-
The decision is within the rules and regulations of the competition, and there is no need to change or alter these rules and regulations.
-
The decision does not breach the contract between the HIHF and the RIHF.
In short the Hungarian Ice Hockey Federation did not do anything wrong legally or breach any contracts when they decided to expand the size of the league.
