2015.10.12. 15:35 |

It is a historical moment when members of a particular moment in sports history come together to lace up the skates, the Heros of Sapporo will be back together again, this time to face Czech superstars.

Sapporo Japan, April 19th 2008

Twenty-two hockey players did the unexpected in front of a handful of Hungarians, more specifically twenty-two incredible players and top notch staff elevated Hungarian hockey to the level of elite hockey nations, on the other side of the world, away their diehard fans. They became legends  in the eyes of fans, sports enthusiasts, friends and family all alike. Their success is marked as the cornerstone on which today's Hungarian team was built and what was achieved in Krakow by  the current national team can traced back to them.

This season with the Hungarian national team in the A-Pool, we will be remembering these hockey players with a special event as the 2008 Hungarian national team will be back on the ice to face a Czech team that will be made up of Olympic and World Champions and some former NHL players.

Czech Team

František Kaberle, Tomás Vlasák, Milan Chalupa, Bedrich Scerban, Richard Zemlicka and Radek Toupal are a few legendary Czech hockey players that will be on the ice at the Tüskecsarnok. The Czech national team has not played played a game in Hungary since 1940 when the two national teams played a three game series that they won with two victories and a draw. In 1988 the Czechoslovak junior team beat the Hungarian senior team, which shows it's not too often that the two nations play each other.

Hungarian Team

Six of the Sapporo legends are still active members of the national team, a couple more are still active players but the majority of them have traded in their skates and sticks for whistles and have moved on to coaching or have left hockey all together. They will all be back this time and fans who missed an opportunity to cheer for them in 2008 can make up for lost time.

One name that will be missing from the lineup will be Gábor Ocskay Jr. who was a member of the team in Sapporo but passed away right before the 2009 World Championships. This gala match will be played in his honor.
