The Hungarian Ice Hockey Federation would like to make this an annual event, the January 23rd Hungarian Hockey Day?
The idea originates from Switzerland where they have been holding a day that is for the love of the sport. In the U.S. in cooperation with the NHL, USA Hockey has been holding a Hockey Weekend.
The Swiss hockey day
On the City Park Ice Rink there be 20 separate small mini hockey ice surfaces will be created with every super mini and B and C mini teams in Hungary being invited for a tournament.
The registrations are continually coming in, at this time there are 61 teams registered with 650 skaters to hit the ice.
The goal of the day is not only to popularize the sport but to remind people how important it is to stay active.
There will be a side rink for adults to try to play 3 on 3 hockey, the new sport that could be created by the HIHF.
