
The Erste Bank Eishockey League (EBEL) had brought up the idea in the March of 2014 for a U16 tournament, a year later we have the European Rookie Cup (EUROCUP) The tournaments i sthe fruits of the cooperation of the EBEL as well as five hockey federations (Austria, Slovenia, Italy, Bosnia and Hungary) and two club teams (KHL Medvescak Zagreb and EHC München) along with five other organizations. The tournament won European Union Erasmus funding through the help of the IIHF technical director, for the next three seasons.
The Hungarian Ice Hockey Federation happily joined the initiative as this project is not only about hockey but also tolerance, the fight against discrimination, fair play and the fight against doping. The young hockey players will also be attending lectures and hearing speakers cover the above mentioned topic along with playing hockey. The program will also include a questionnaire that all involved player
The tournament will take place in two parts, a group stage and a final four, the group stage will be played on the weekends of march 19-23 and 26-29, with the final being on the weekend of April 10-12
