The injury wave for the national team did not end when the team left Budapest as another player from the Krakow squad picked up an injury, this time Balázs Sebők was scratched from the lineup, taking his place was Áron Reisz. Also making their senior national team debuts wer Jesse Dudás, Kevin Wehrs, and Áron Könczei. Scratched from the lineup was Bálizs, Szabó, Mestyán, Kocsis, and Somogyi.

Miklós Rajna got the starting nod for the first game of the tournament, and we was kept busy, during the first period the shots on goal were 11-1 in favor of Norway. Hungary picked up four penalties in the first period, just as the last one was killed Anders Bastiansen put the puck under the crossbar to give Norway the lead in the last minute of the period. Just before the Norway goal Csaba Kovács had picked up a loose puck in the neutral zone and skated in for a short handed attempt but he clanged it off the crossbar.

The home team doubled their lead with a nice tic-tac-toe quick passing play that ended with Mathias Trettenes putting the puck past Rajna. In the middle period Hungary had a number of scoring chances as Dániel Kóger hit the post, András Benk and Krisztián Nagy also had chances.

In the opening minutes of the final period Morten Ask scored a power play goal that put Norway up 4-0, the score would remain the same the rest of the way.

In the early game of the day it took Denmark 15 minutes to score their first goal, but the scoring kicked in as they scored five power play goals throughout the game against France in the 6-0 win.

Hungarian Assistant coach Gergely Majoross

“We tried to emphasize that our energy level and the work that we do on the ice is at a maximum level, and i think we had that from the first shift to the last, we have some guys that need time to pick up the speed at this level, we are not near the level that we will need to be at. We made  number of mistakes but i think that we played better in the second and third periods than in the first.”

Norway coach Roy Johansen

“We have been playing the same system for ten years and we have had the same team for a long time, guys are familiar with the system, you have to take advantage of the possibilities that are given to you.”
