Tibor Marton and the Hungarian women’s national team opened up the Division 1/B world championships against Netherlands. The young but experienced Anió Németh started in net for Hungary, who last year lost to the Netherlands 2-0 in China.
Hungary took a 1-0 lead early in the second period after a scramble in front of the net Andi Kiss put her own rebound in to score the first Hungarian goal of the tournament. Németh stopped all four shots she faced. In the second period Hungary had a 3 on 1 chance that they did not take advantage of as they could have doubled their lead. With just under five minutes left in the period Holland made it 1-1 as Barbier skated in and used a Hungarian defender as a screen. In the last minute of play Holland called a timeout. Just like in the first period the Netherlands had four shots on net with Hungary again having eleven. In the third period the pace of the game stayed about the same. With just about ten minutes left in the game Hungary took back the lead off of a goal bz Vivien Somogyi. Hungary held the one goal lead into the closing minutes of the game, Netherlands pulled their goalie with 32 seconds left in the game however they did not managed to tie the game up.
Andrea Kiss was named the Hungarian player of the game.
