After 4-0 loss to Norway on Thursday night Hungary was back on the ice Friday afternoon to take on Denmark, the Danes beaten France in the early game 6-0.
The injury bug struck again as Kevin Wehrs was added to the list of the walking wounded, Balázs Sebők did not play either because of illness. Also scrated from the lineup was Jesse Dudás, Csaba Kovács, Dániel Kóger and yesterday's goalie Miklós Rajna as well. Making it into the squad was Somogyi, Kocsis, Mestyán and Dániel Szabó who was making his senior team debut. Zoltán Hetényi was the starting goalie with Bence Bálizs on the bench.
Despite all the injuries the Hungarian team started great and much better that the night before against Norway. Hetényi stood tall as Hungary was outshot 14-4 in the first period. The second period was even better as Hungary took the lead in the opening minutes when Balázs Somogyi put home his own rebound, Hungary almost score on the next shift which caused Danish coach Jan Karlsson to call timeout and calm his players down. the balanced play continued into the third period but the shots on net were much closer this time 12-9 in favor of Denmark. At 1:08 of the third period Denmark finally put a puck past Hetényi, who made two big saves before the puck went in. This gave life to the Danes as they looked like the dominant team, this was also reflected in the shots on goal in the period as Hungary managed only two shots compared to the 18 by Denmark. After 60 minute of action the game went into overtime, despite Hungary being outshot 44-15. In the extra period Hungary managed to create more scoring chances but neither team was able to score. In the shootout.
In the shootout Green who was the first shooter converted his chance and ended up being the only one to do so as Somogyi, Péter Vincze and Ladislav Sikorcin all missed. This gave Denmark the second point.
Hungary will be playing France tomorrow at noon.
Hungarian assistant coach Gergely Majoross: Just like after yesterday's game this was an important experience for us and we will be able to build off this, picked up more injured but we were able to keep the pace this time with a similar caliber team as yesterday. We did not dominate and they had more scoring chances but we did not implode on the defensive end, we had scoring chances and we played great defensively with a great performance by our goalie.
Denmark head coach Jan Karlsson: This the type of game we expected, I was really impressed by the Hungarian team , they worked really hard for 60 minutes, they had some bad luck. I told the guys that they should be ready to face a team that will play for 60 minutes. I think we played great in the first and third periods, if we would have converted our chance in the first period the result would have been different.
