After a day off the Hungarian Women were back on the ice facing Slovakia, who on paper was the highest ranked team.
At the 4 Nations tournament that was held in February Hungary had managed to beat Slovakia, this time around things were a bit different. There was one major change in the lineup, because of illness Renáta Poltzer was replaced as the backup goalie by Boglárka Gégési, Poltzer had been ill for a number of days and it looks like the World Championships are over for her.
It looked like the penalty kill had improved for Hungary as they killed a five on three. Both Anikó Németh and Romana Kiapsova stood tall in their respective goals as neither team was able to score in the first period.
In the opening minutes of the second period Hungary was awarded a penalty shot but unfortunately Réka Dabasi was not able to put the puck past Kiapsova. Minutes later Livia Lucova was able to beat Németh for the first and what ended up being the only goal that Slovakia needed.
Both goalies went toe to toe the rest of the way but in the ned the one goal was all that was needed for Slovakia.
Tibor Marton- “Renáts Poltzer has been sick for three days, we have been practicing with only one goalie and it is not a good idea to put this much work onto Anikó Németh. This was a game that could have gone in the favor of either team unfortunately this time we were not able to beat Slovakia like we did two months ago. There were two reasons for this, our decision making as not always the best at critical times, second was that you can't win games without scoring goals”
