After opening up with a tight win over Netherlands, Tibor marton and his team were back on the ice less than 24 hours after their previous game to take on Latvia, who has been riding the “elevator” between Division 1/A and 1/B.
Anikó Németh stayed as the starting goalie, however there were some changes to the lineup. Yesterday’s player of the game Andi Kiss was out of the lineup, Tifani Horváth took her spot on the top line.
Hungary jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when they took advantage of their first power play of the day, the opening goal was an unassisted shot by Dorci Medgyes. Minutes later Horváth made it 2-0 for Hungary as she managed to score from the slot. Hungary had out shot Latvia in the first period 15 to 4. In the second period Latvia was a lot more active as they as well scored on their first power play of the game to cut the Hungarian lead in half. About five minutes later Alexandra Rónai put Hungary back up by two goals. The scoring really picked up in the final period, Kitti Trencsényi made it 4-1 however later in the period Latvia came back with in two goals. In the closing minutes of the game Nora Brgles scored an insurance goal to complete the upset and solid win.
Dorci Medgyes was name the Hungarian player of the game.
