“We played our first game of the tournament against a relatively young but skilled opponent. It was a tight match up until the midway point of the game, we managed to turn the puck over a lot during the game which gave them a number of counter attack opportunities, lucky for us Krisztián Budai played outstanding. Csaba Székely came in for Budai at the midway point.
“We played against a skilled older team that stuck with us for the first quarter. We managed to hold on to the lead with shots on goal a great play. Székely got his first playing time in the tournament and kept the same level of play that Budai had in the first half. Both team played undisciplined, because of this there was a fight in the game where our youngest player Márk Pozsár stood his ground. We took a big step towards first place thanks to some great individual efforts as well as Zoltán Pál’s hat trick.”

IHC Night Birds Prerov - Hungary 9-8 (1-1, 1-1, 4-1, 3-5)
2016.07.03 14:30h Prerov (CZE)

“We played against the strongest team in the tournament. It was a balanced game right from the start, both sides were able to put the puck on net and play at a fast pace. Unfortunately at the midway point of the game our opponent was able to build a multiple goal lead in a short period of time. We made a couple of defensive mistakes where Budai was not able to bail us out of. In the final quarter we were able to straighten things out and managed to cut the deficit to one goal. We were not able to tie the game up after we pulled our goalie for the extra attacker.”
Once everyone had played, Hungary, Prerov and Novy Jicin were all tied with nine points, because of this goal differential was the tie breaker. Hungary had the largest goal differential and with this they captured the gold medal.
“I am very proud and happy that on top of winning the tournament Norbert Fekecs was voted MVP, we played a disciplined but also attractive style of hockey and we deserved to win
