After leaving Fehérvár AV19 for Tingsryds of the Allsvenskan after the 2009-10 season forward János Vas is back in Fejér county after spending the past two season with Slavia Praha.

The long time national team forward and former Dallas Stars second round draft pick János Vas is on the move again to a new team in a league. Actually neither the league nor the team is new as Vas is moving back to one of his former clubs, Fehérvár AV19 where he had 27 points in 53 games the last time he was with the club. Vas has played in the top hockey countries in the world with stops in the U.S., Sweden, Czech Republic and France. HIHF media partner Nemzeti Sport caught up with János Vas the day he signed his contract.

How come you signed with Alba Volán?
I had a number of offers but I was looking for a real challenge and Fehérvár was the best option, I think I can really help the club.

Where did you get offers from?
I received an offer from the Herlev Eagles in Denmark where former Dunaújváros coach J.P. MacCallum is the new head coach, my former team in France, DIjon had also shown interest. In Great Britain both Sheffield and Glasgow said that if I don’t end up signing in Fehérvár they would be interested in bringing me in.

Did the idea of you coming back to Praha come up at all this year?
The club’s website said that it was my decision not to come back, there are some issues with the management at the club, they are selling the ice hockey section of the team and 50% of the ownership rights of the soccer team are also up for sale, we never really talked about me returning to the team.

How did the offer from Fehérvár come about?
After the World Championships Gábor Ocskay and myself had mentioned that we should have a talk during the summer. This happened last week and we came to an agreement pretty quickly. We originally were not that far apart. I have played in a number of places but Fehérvár has always had the best environment. I am also very curious to see how much the EBEL has changed since the last time I played in the league.

Have you talked to you coach new coach Tyler Dietrich yet?
I have not had the chance yet but he will be arriving back to Hungary this week, so far I have only been talking to Gábor Ocskay.
