After a number of national team players who have switched clubs in the offseason the first official member of the coaching staff has found a new home as Hungarian treble winning coach Gergely Majoross has left Miskolc for MAC Budapest.
“I’m a Budapest kid, my family lives here and I think it was a logical move to come back home, I think it is a good move for both me and my career to come back to Budapest and to build something.” said Majoross in an interview with Digi Sport.
After retiring from hockey Majoross got into coaching first at the MAC Budapest Hockey Academy, his first foray into senior hockey was being the video coordinator for the Hungarian mens team under Rich Chernomaz at the 2013 World Championships. Last season Miskolc hired him to be their head coach, which was his first senior heading coaching position. Not only did Miskolc make they playoffs, they had the best record in the regular season, and did something that no other Hungarian team had done before, they won the Hungarian title, the MOL League championship and the Hungarian Cup, all with a rookie coach. To Top it all off “Mogyi” was an assistant on the national team he was part of the staff that won promotion to the A Pool for next year world championships.
In an interview with Nemzeti Sport he had the following to say about how everything came about “The MAC Budapest managment talked to me after the world championships that they would like to enter the MOL League and I am one of the coaches that they are talking to for the upcoming season. I had to think what would be the best for me and my family, this past season I constantly travelling between Budapest and Miskolc this past year. This season will be a great challenge as the goal will be to get more and more players from the academy into the the seniors team and have this pipeline flowing for years to come. The decision was made easier that there were a number of people in the management as well as around the club that I have known for years.
Balázs Kangyal and I had discussed what type of people we would be looking for to fill out the roster, we would like to have 6-7 junior players filling out the rest of the roster along with veteran Hungarians and the import players, the management would like us to play strong competitive entertaining games. For me right now the goal is to be able to bring out the maximum with the the players that we have on the roster.”
This season Majoross could top what he did last season, win the treble with a brand new team.
