It is not that often that a two time Stanley Cup championship winning former NHL player spends a couple of days in Budapest.
Former NHL Goalkeeper Mike Vernon is in Budapest for business but has decided to have a one day goalie camp out at the Jégpalota on Wednesday the 18th.
Mike Vernon who backstopped the Calgary Flames to the finals in both 1986 and in 1989. The Flames first try in '86 came up just short to a young Montreal Canadiens club that had an equally great keeper in Patrick Roy.
In 1989 the Flames came up back to win the franchises first and so far only Stanley Cup in a rematch of the '86 finals winning four games to two.
He would later win a second Cup with the Detroit Red Wings in 1997, he would end up being named playoffs MVP that season. After the 1995-96 season he and teammate Chris Osgood shared the Jennings trophy as well.
Vernon finished his career with 385 regular season wins which is twelfth all time and 77 playoff wins for seventh on the all time list.
However the one of the most memorable moments in his career came on March 26th 1997 when in an all out brawl Vernon took on his keeper opponent Patrick Roy in one of the most epic goalie vs goalie fights all time.
