After the two teams split the the first four games evenly the semi final series has become a best out of three. MAC had Niko Saarenpaa back in the lineup but back up goalie Gergely Arany was out with an injury, Norbert Zaka took his place and Bence Bálizs was the starter. On the other side Miklós Rajna started in net, Tamás Láday was back from a one game suspension.
The game was a tight battle with the first goal not being scored until the fifteenth minute of the game when Attila Reiter took a shot from the left faceoff circle, Brance Orbán was on the spot for the long rebound and he scooped it around Bálizs who had slid out of the net. Minutes later MAC pulled even on a Saarenpaa goal, the Finnish forward had won the faceoff, István Terbócs dished it back and Saarenpaa finished it from close range.
Early in the second period MAC had a scoring chance that they could not convert on, on the oncoming rush Orbán took the puck coast to coast and snapped it from the left faceoff dot to put Fehérvár back up. Volán opened up a two goal lead when Preston Shupe flew down the right wing, around Mike Quinn as is he was standing still and flipped the puck past Bálizs for a beautiful goal. MAC cut the deficit to one goal when Tomas Klempa lifted the puck into the attacking zone that dropped down in front of Saarenpaa who tapped it on off the bounce past Rajna. With just under five minutes left in the game MAC tied it up when Ian McDonald tightly squared the puck and Bence Stipsicz was on the spot for the top in. With just minutes to go in the game MAC managed to flip the score when Quinn picked up the puck on his blue line flew down the left win and sniped it past Rajna on the short side. Volan pulled the goalie for teh extra attacked in the last minute of play.
Gergely Majoross: What is interesting about this sport is that 2-3 goal lead is never enough and we have seen in this series that four goal lead is also not enough. It is very big in this series who or what team has the momentum, both teams have experienced this in both ends, it shows a lot about our team how we were able to react in the third period.
Tyler Dietrich: I don’t think we played too well, we had some good periods during the game, Rajan had some key saves, they had some lucky bounces in the third period and they came out on top, we need to pick ourselves up and get back to work.
