DVTK-MAC 5-4 OT

After Saturday night's game one win, Diósgyőr was hoping to take a two games to zero lead in the MOL League finals. DVTK had Dávid Gyenes in net and the rest of the lineup stayed the same. MAC also did not make any changes in goal with Bence Bálizs in net, however this time Nikoe Saarenpaa was on the first line with Jeff Hayes and Ian McDonald, the second line now was Attila Németh taking Saarenpaa’s spot and Dávid Szappanos playing on the third line. The fourth line and the d-man combinations stayed the same as Tamás Pozsgai and Tomas Klempa were already out and Robi Egyed picked up an injury before the game.

MAC managed to do in the opening minutes of the game what they were not able to do for sixty minutes in game one, and that was to score twice. The Budapest club jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening minutes of the game. McDonald skated in, waited for his line mates, left the puck for Hayes who fired it in from the slot, less than a minute later McDonald did it himself as he fired one in from the blueline as Gyenes saw little or nothing of the shot. DVTK looked to recover from that initial punch but were not able to put one past Bálizs, they had a short handed chance when Jon Booras skate in on a breakaway but Bálizs made the save.

The game started to get a bit chippy in the second period, Roland Hajós missed a wide open net from the crease that cut it to a one goal game. Ian McDonald took a stick to teh face and had to leave the game.Later in the period Kristóf Schmál won a faceoff in the DVTK zone, István Mestyán put the puck through traffic on net that somehow went in as Gyenes did not see anything from the shot. In the last minute of play with Nikandros Galanisz and Drew Olson serving offsetting penalties Kalvin Sagert scored a four on four goal when he sent a frozen rope past Bálizs from the blue line.

Justin Cseter who has played himself up to the second line and has been playing great cut it to a one goal game as he crashed the net he pounced on a loose puck, pulled it past Bálizs and flipped out over the sprawling goalie. The home team tied it up when Balázs Somogy did a nice toe drag past Mike Quinn and put it in the back of the net to tie the game up 3-3. On the next shift Krisztián Nagy put a shot on net from the right faceoff circle that somehow made it past Gyenes to put MAC up by one. In the closing minutes DVTK pulled their goalie for the extra attacker. The move paid off as DVTK tied it up when Dudás took a shot from the blue line that was saved but Jon Booras put the rebound in.

In overtime DVTK killed the penalty that rolled over from the third period, later in the overtime period there was a delayed penalty that Somogyi took advantage of when he scored from inside the blue line off the post and in.

DVTK head coach Jason Morgan: This is playoff hockey, they came out us from the start and took a 2-0 lead. Our goalie Gyenes played outstanding especially when we needed so big saves. The third period was our best period, it was a great game with 2 great teams battling it out.

MAC head coach Gergely Majoross: This game came down to small bounces and chances, we kept on picking up injuries as the game went on, our players played outstanding we had some young guys step up when they needed to. I am proud of my players but unfortunately we came out on the short side.
