MOL League: One blowout and one OT win

Tuesday night brought two games to the MOL League fans, as rivals Fehérvár and MAC Budapest locked horns and Brasov finished their road trip in Debrecen.

DHK-Brasov 8-3

After losing to league leaders Diósgyőr last night Debrecen was looking to pick up some valuable points against Romanian side Brasov. Debrecen has started to pick up injuries as Zoltán Csíki was not in the line up and Norbert Hári also had to miss the game. Ádám Vay was starting in net for Debrecen with the visitors sticking with Zóltán Tőke on back to back nights. The home team scored first as Péter Hetényi centered a pass to Ákos Berta who slid it on the ice short side past the goalie. Kasper Emanuelsson doubled the lead on a tap in on the for post with Debrecen on a 5 on 3. In the middle twenty minutes Debrecen opened up their lead, when Zsolt Wéber used a screen to get the puck past the goalie. Brasov finally got on the scoreboard when they were peppering  Vay and István Sprencz finally put one in. In the closing minutes of the period Debrecen scored two goals only seconds apart as Norbert Dancsfalvi and Péter Vincze combined on a give and go to make it 4-0 and Danil Kaskov scored a back door tap in for the fifth of the night. The game really opened up in the third period as Kaskov scored his second of the night and Martin Saluga set up Berta to make it 7-1. Zsombor Balázs weaved through the Debrecen defense and scored a snap shot goal, Garrett Milan and a Gergő Bíró short handed goal for Brasov set the final at 8-3

MAC-AV19 3-2 OT

Volán travelled to Budapest to take on MAC for the second time in a week, and hoped to pick up another win. MAC hit the ice with Bence Bálizs in net with Fehérvár countering with Janis Kalnins in net. Both the MOL League squad and the EBEL team for Fehérvár has picked up some injuries the seventeen year old Bence Szabó made his MOL League debut. Both teams had scoring chances on the power play in the first period but neither team was able to score. The game remained scoreless until a power play goal by Fehérvár, the visitors set up a tight triangle in front of the MAC goal and after a tic-tac-toe passing sequence from Áron Reisz, Brance Orbán and Chris Bodó the puck was in the net behind Bálizs. In the last minute of the period Niko Saarenpaa slipped the puck through Kanis’ legs, off the post and the puck settled on the goal line. The teams entered the third period even at 1-1 but the score didn’t last long as Jeff Hayes scored from high in the slot after taking a pass from Tomas Klempa from behind the net. The teams were fighting for the next goal throughout the period and Fehérvár was able to tie it up when Ádám Hegyi put a rebound in off of a Chris Bodó shot from close range. With just over two minutes left in overtime Saarenpaa centers it to Hayes for the winner.
