Sunday brought two games to the fans with both games having implications on the top three teams in the league as number four faced number three and number five faced number two.

AV19-MAC 3-2

Its as if Fehévár and MAC face each other every other game, after an overtime MAC win in Budapest, the two teams went head to head on Sunday night. Both coaches shuffled their lines for various reasons. In Fehérvár the EBEL team has had a number forwards get injured so they have been calling up players from the MOL team, because of this Tyler Dietrich went with four balanced forward lines and Janis Kalnins in net. MAC was without Tamás Pozsgai and coach Gergely Majoross broke up the line of Klempa, Hayes and McDonald for the first time this season, Bence Bálizs was in net. For the first time all season MAC scored the first goal of the game when Dezső Roczanov skated in, slipped the puck to Attila Németh who tapped it in to give the visitors the 1-0. Less than two minutes later Fehérvár had tied it up when Ádám Z. Hegyi put a shot on net that Brance Orbán redirected for the goal. In the second period Fehérvár took their first lead of the game when Preston Shupe one timed a pass from Bence Szabó from the goal line past Bálizs. In the last minute of the second period MAC tied it up when Niko Saarenpaa set up Dávid Szappanos who”s backhanded shot slipped in next to the post. The game stayed tied at 2-2 until the 58th minute when Fehérvár cycled the puck until Mitch Holmberg was set up for the shot which he zipped past Bálizs to make it 3-2, which ended up being the final.

Fehérvár coach Tyler Dietrich: First period we were caught on our heels a lot, MAC controlled the game but we had a great play to tie it up and get out of the period 1-1. The guys really buckled down and we fortunately capitalized on the power play.

DHK-UTE 2-3 OT

With a win Debrecen could jump over DVTK into first place, but on Friday night Újpest beat up on Diógyőr who is in first place before the game. The home team had Norbert Hári back in the lineup and Ádám Vay in net, on the other side József Pleszkán was defending the UTE net. After a scoreless first period Debrecen got on the scoreboard first on a shorthanded goal when Áron Könczei picked up a loose puck in front of the UTE net and put it in low on the glove side. On the next power play UTE was able to score when Jozef Mihálik took a Victor Lindgren pass and sent a slap shot onto the net that hit the post and went in, blocker side. Debrecen took the lead back on a powerplay goal when Evgeni Kunayev sent a rocket from the faceoff dot, but with less than a minute left in the period UTE tied it up in transition from Karol Csányi with Ádám Garbacz having the assist. After a scoreless third period the game went into overtime, it took UTE less than two minutes into the extra period for Péter Huba to score the game winner as Újpest picked up 5 points out of six against the top two teams in the league.
