Budapest teams Split on Tuesday night

Tuesday night brought two games to Budapest as Újpest hosted Debrecen and Ferencváros played host to Fehérvár

Adam Vay started his second game in a row for the visiting squad, József Pleszkán started for the first time this season for the purple and white. Both teams were missing a star player, Teemu Elomo was still out for the home team with Balázs Ladányi for the visitors. Debrecen scored first when Danil Koskov shot one past Ágoston from the slot. After killing a 5 on 3 DHK made it 2-0 from an Ákos Berta goal. In the second period Ákos Kiss jumped on loose puck at center ice and snapped one past Vay to make it 2-1. Kaskov scored his second of the night when he took a feed from behind the net and flipped it past the goalie. In the closing minutes of the game UTE had a two man advantage and also pulled their goalie for the 6 on 3 and were not able to score Maksim Ivanov scored an empty netter at the end.

Ákos Berta, Debrecen Captain: The game started great, with both teams scoring quickly, we were able to get control of the game, both teams were fighting for the win and I think it was an exciting win.

Fehérvár traveled to Budapest for the first time this season to take on Fradi, Krisztián Budai was in net for the home team and Alex Scola got his first start of the season for Fehérvár. A Gergely Géczi goal gave the home team the lead late in the first period. Right before the midway point of the game the effective Fradi power play struck as Joona Manninen put FTC up 2-0, but Fehérvár cut into the lead with a power play goal of their own as Devon Krogh put one through. Things got exciting in the third period, Krisztián Szabó scored his first senior goal on the first shift of the third period to tie it up, less than a minute later Attila Reiter gave the visitors their first lead of the game. Both teams exchanged goals before the Fradi captain Gábor Kiss scored twice in a span of 71 seconds in the closing minutes to give FTC the win, an empty net goal set the final at.

Head Coach Greg Lindqvist: I thought we played a solid game, we started out well and played good but we came out flat in the third period, we made some mistakes and they capitalized on it. We fought hard to get back into the game this win showed that we have character. Over all I’m happy with the win.
