
Diósgyőr was playing without Jesse Dudás because of a suspension with Jarkko Leppanen and Balázs Gőz were missing because of injury and Dávid Gyenes was starting in net. Debrecen had Bronson Kovács and Norbert Hári were back in the lineup however Timur Rasulov was out with an injury and Ádám Vay still had one game left on his suspension, Savva Borodin was starting in net. Debrecen game out firing as they scored the opening goal of the game in the first minute of play when Erik Piatak put the puck past Gyenes, later in the period Martin Saluga took a feed from Hári high in the slot and put it into the back of the net. In the opening minutes of the second period DVTK was on the power play and they capitalized on it when Keegan Dansereau scored. Debrecen was able to hold the lead until the final minute of the period when DVTK tied the game up on a goal by Jon Booras. In the first minute of the third period Debrecen switched goalies as Péter Nagy went in for Borodin, less than a minute later DVTK took the first lead of the game on Keegan Dansereau second goal of the game. Later in the period Nikandrosz Galanisz doubled the home team lead. In the closing minutes of the game Diósgyőr pulled away when Mátyás Vojtkó found the back of the net to make it 5-2.

For the opening game of the series István Bartalis was taking the place of Chris Bodó in the lineup, getting the start in net was Janis Kalnins, on the home side Bence Bálizs was the starting keeper. Fehérvár got things going when Tamás Sáráptki took a pass from Roland Vokla in the corner and one timed it past Bálizs. Towards the end of the period Mike Quinn flicked a shot from the blue line that Kalnins did not see and ended up in net. In the early part of the second period István Terbőcs jammed home a rebound, Fehérvár tied it up on the two man power play when Brance Orbán fed Preston Shupe who fired it into the back of the empty net. The goals started to come one after another as after a scramble in front of the Fehérvár net Jeff Hayes banged home the loose puck. Volán tied up 3-3 when Alex Grieve skated in all alone on Bálizs and slipped the puck past him. MAC took a two goal lead in short span when Krisztián Nagy clanged the puck off the post and in, with Hayes scoring his second one of the game to make it 5-3. In the last minute of play Fehérvár pulled their goalie and it paid off as Holmberg scored from the slot to make it a one goal game. In the end it was a little too late.
