
The Disciplinary Commission no.2015-16/026 decree
The Disciplinary Committee investigated two cases at the MOL League match MOL 158 (Miercurea Ciuc Sport Club - MAC Budapest). In one case the referees decreed 5 minutes and Game Misconduct Penalty (CHE-H), and at the other case two players were penalised a 2+2 minutes (ROUGH) and Game Misconduct Penalty (GA-Ml).
The Disciplinary Committee made the following conclusion about these cases:
Case 1
After 51 minutes Drew OLSON, the player of MAC Budapest collided with his elbow, crashed into the opponent's head. The referees penalized the action 5 +20 minutes, for checking the head or neck area (CHE-H).
IIHF RULE 124 – CHECKING TO THE HEAD OR NECK
DEFINITION: A player who directs a hit of any sort, with any part of his body or equipment, to the head or neck of an opposing player or drives or forces the head of an opposing player into the protective glass or boards. This rule supersedes all similar actions regarding hits to the head and neck except those related to fighting.
A player who directs a check to the head or neck of an opponent will be assessed one of: (1) a minor penalty and misconduct penalty; (2) a major penalty.
According to the Disciplinary Committee’s statement, the player was lost the control over the puck,and hit with his elbow the opponent player’ face. The Disciplinary Commission held that the Miercurea Ciuc Sports Club player avoided physical contact when he realized that his opponent is not in possession of the puck in making its decision in mind. OLSON, Drew movement was unnecessarily, endangered the physical safety of fellow players.
The Disciplinary Committee suspends Drew OLSON, the MAC Budapest player for 5 MOL League matches.
The player will spend down his sentence at the next MOL League matches.
Case 2
Szilard ORBAN (Miercurea Ciuc Sports Club) and Michael QUINN (MAC Budapest) tangled after 30 minutes, following a stoppage of play, and that generated a brawl, and they started a fight. The referees penalized both players 2 + 2 minute Minor Penalty for roughing (ROUGH) and a 10 minute Misconduct Penalty (MISC).
RULE 158 – ROUGHING
DEFINITION: A player who jostles or strikes an opponent during the game. A player involved in a confrontation with an opponent will be assessed a minor, double minor, or major and automatic game-misconduct penalty.
The Disciplinary Commission do not impose any other sanctions besides this statement.
Earlier in the match, Michael QUINN (MAC Budapest) has received a 10 minute Misconduct (MISC), so after the second 10 minute penalty has changed an automatic Game Misconduct Penalty (GA-MI).
