The Disciplinary Commission no.2015-16/037 decree

The Disciplinary Committee investigated the MOL League game MOL MOL 201 (Fehervar AV19 – Sport Club Csikszereda), where Ede MIHALY player of Sport Club Csikszereda was being penalized 2+10 minutes for checking from behind (CHE-B). The Committee made the following conclusions:

After 55 minutes the player of Sport Club Csikszereda pushed the opponent backs with his stick to the board.

Fehervar AV19 player is injured, could not continue the game.

IIHF RULE 123 – CHECKING FROM BEHIND

DEFINITION: A player who delivers a check to a vulnerable player who is not aware of the impending hit or who is unable to protect or defend himself from such a hit. The point of contact is the back of the body. A player who hits an opponent from behind into the boards, the goal frame, or in open ice in any manner will be assessed at least a minor and misconduct penalty. A player who recklessly endangers an opponent as a result of checking from behind will be assessed a major penalty and game-misconduct penalty. A player who injures an opponent as a result of checking from behind will be assessed a match penalty.

According to the Disciplinary Committee's statement, the player's purpose was not to reach the puck. He hit the opponent player with the srick from behind. The player couldn't prepare to the collision, he lost his from the push, and he slammed into the boards. The offending player suffered a fracture on his hand.

The Disciplinary Commitee suspends Ede MIHALY, the Sport Club Csikszereda player for

6 MOL League matches.

The player will spend down his sentence at the next 6 MOL League matches.
