DVTK-MAC 4-1
In the opening game of the series MAC as expected had Bence Bálizs in net with Gergely Arany as the backup. Tomas Klempa was out with an injury, taking his spot on the top line was Dávid Szappanos with Arnold Silló getting back in the lineup in place of Robi Egyed, also missing because of illness was Tamás Pozsgai, MAC dressed twelve forwards and six defencemen. DVTK had Dávid Gyenes in net with as they dressed thirteen forwards and six defencemen. Balázs Gőz was back in the line after recovering from his injury and Jesse Dudás was back from his suspension. Jason Morgan mixed the lines a bit as Attila Pavuk and Justin Cseter were bumped up to the first and second lines after their scoring outburst against Debrecen.
It didn’t take long for Diósgyőr to show that they didn’t have any rust as Dudás centered a pass and Booras scored from close range Bálizs had no chance to react. Later in the period Booras struck again, this time it was on a 4 on 3 as the two teams had offsetting penalties and MAC also had a minor. After the first twenty minutes Diósgyőr had out shot MAC 14-6 and had physically outplayed them as well.
In the second period it looked as if MAC would get back in the game, Majoross had shuffled the line with Saarenpaa playing with Hayes and McDonald, with Szappanos now with Krisztián Nagy and Terbócs. The move looked to pay off as Mike Quinn took a backdoor pass from Saarenpaa in the early part of the second period to make it a one goal game. Just over five minutes later DVTK was back up by two goals, when Márk Miskolczi was on the spot to tap a rebound home. The second period only brought 4 shots for MAC but DVTK cut their total from the first period in half with 7 shots on net.
The third period MAC pulled closer to the level of DVTK but it was not enough. Diósgyőr was able to kill both short handed situation they had and took advantage of their only power play of the period when Dudás took a long shot to put the home team up 4-1 and pretty much giving them game one.
