DVTK-FTC 12-4
After taking a bad beating at Újpest the defending champions Diósgyőr was hoping to get everything straightened out during their game against Ferencváros. For FTC they were trying to get out of a five game losing who played without Edgars Apelis and Gergely Géczi because of injury and Jimmy Jensen who was serving a two game suspension. DVTK had a full roster with Bence Kiss getting the start for the home team and the veteran Krisztián Budai was between the pipes for Greg Lindqvist’s team. Jon Booras gave DVTK the early lead when he skated down the right wing and dropped the puck for Márk Miskolczi, who put a shot on net that was saved but Booras was there for the rebound. Later in the period Levente Szilágyi went down the left side and waited until the last second to make the centering pass that Justin Cseter poked past Budai to make it 2-0. Fradi cut the deficit in half in the closing minute of the period when Joona Manninen took a pass from the corner and ripped a shot from the slot that Kiss saved but Simon Farkas put the puck into the empty net. In the first minute of the second period, after a faceoff in the Fradi zone Keegan Dansereau took a shot from the slot that Budai saved but was not able to collect the rebound and Dansereau made him pay with a power play goal. The PolarBear scoring machine really took off when DVTK scored three even strength goals before Fradi was able to score their second of the night. Balázs Gőz put a rebound past Budai, Roland Hajós set up Adrián Tóth to make it 5-1 when Oliver Ágoston came on for Budai. Cseter scored his second of the night off of a nice snap shot. Jesse Dudás and Nikandrosz Galanisz each scored in the period before Attila Rafaj ripped a rocket to make it 8-3 after two periods. Fradi had a flicker of light when Rafaj scored in the first minute of the third to make it 8-4, DVTK rolled off teh next four goals with Booras, Vojtko, Ritó and Galanisz completing the knockout.
Diósgyőri VTK head coach Péter Mayer: I don’t think I really need to explain anything after scoring a dozen goals, I hope that some of the players have found their game after today’s match. We need to improve on our penalty kill, but luckily our weak play was only for a couple of minutes. I think the fans enjoyed the game and I am glad we could entertain them.
HSC-Brasov 5-3
Both Romanian teams were determined to win the first Transylvanian derby in Csíkszereda this season. The home team had Gellért Ruczaj in net, which means they had eight imports skating, Brasov had Zoltán Tőke in net. The last time these two teams played each other in Brasov the Wolves beat HSC 5-2. The home team took a 1-0 lead when Zsombor Antal scored a power play goal, it didn’t take long for Csíkszereda to double their lead on a second power play goal, this time the imports combined for the goal as the Latvians Kalvis Ozols and Kirilis Tambijevs setup Anton Berlev for the goal. It only took 21 seconds for Mátyás Bíró to get the goal back for Brasov. The scoring picked in the second period as Berlev scored his second goal of the game and Csaba Nagy answered but Tambijevs scored two power play goals late in the period to put some space between his team and Brasov. In the third period Imre János set up Hunor Márton as Brasov made it a two goal game.
HSC Csíkszereda head coach Artur Oktyabrov: I feel that we dominated for most of the game, we did make some mistakes that the other team capitalized on. I would like to note that the guys put a lot of energy into the game. Our special teams played great and it was the key to the game.
