MOL League: Loaded Schedule on Sunday

2015.09.20. 21:41 |

The second Sunday of the season brought a fully loaded schedule as Brasov was the only that wasn’t on the ice. As the fans of the MOL League have come accustomed to it Sunday was another exciting game day.

HSC-MAC 4-7

The Budapest club travelled to Transylvania for the first time this season, Bence Bálizs got the start in net but young forward István Terbócs suffered a head injury in practice and did not make the trip. On the other side Gellért Ruczuj started for HSC Csíkszereda who for the first time all season they were dressing five import players, Oleg Blagoi has had some visa problems and has not been allowed to play in Hungary yet. Jeff Hayes gave the visiting MAC the early 1-0 lead from an assist from Bálizs the goalie, but Shane Heffernan countered quickly to even it up at 1-1. Ede Miály scored for HSC later in the first period to give the home team the first lead of the game. In the opening minutes of the second period Ian McDonald set up Kristóf Schmál for the equalizer, minutes later Hayes scored his second of the night to give the visitors their second lead of the night. Before the period was out MAC had a 5-2 lead with a Drew Olson goal and Hayes completing his hat trick. In the third period HSC cut it to a one goal game at 5-4 when  Róbert Mikéska and Kyle Heffernan on the power play managed to put the puck behind Bálizs. Hayes scored amazingly a fourth goal in the game and Krisztián Nagy tacked on a goal at the end for the 7-4 road win.

MAC Head Coach Gergely Majoross: After the last game where we faced them we really worked on trying to finish our chances, I think we were better in front of the net this time and we were able to score seven goals today. The second period was key, I told the guys about some nuances that the rink has which by the second period they payed attention to. We tried to find a solution for everything as quickly as possible and that was the big difference for us.

AV19-DVTK 2-4

The home team Fehérvár were hoping to get their first win in regulation, on the other side DVTK was trying to get about their overtime loss to Dunaújváros on Friday. With Mark Guggenberger missing his second game in a row because of injury Bence Kiss made his season debut in net for Diósgyör, Janis Kalnins started for the home team. DVTK  took a quick two goal lead on power play goals by Balázs Somogyi and Nikandrosz Galanisz. The two goals were scored within thirty seconds of each other when Gergő Nagy 2+2 for hooking and a slash. DVTK scored again this time on the two man power play when Kalvin Sagert put the puck behind Kalnins, that was it for the Latvian international as coach Tyler Dietrich pulled hm for Alex Scola. In the second period Mitch Holmberg put Fehérvár on the board Preston Shupe scored on the two man advantage as well. Brance Orbán made it a one goal game in the last minute of the second period when placed a shot from the right faceoff circle past Kiss for the power play goal. Adrián Tóth scored in the last minute of the game to set the final at 4-2 as it was the only even strength goal of the game.

DVTK Head coach Péter Mayer: We controlled the game in the first period, played the way a team like this should. The guys played smart and our power play was excellent, in the second period maybe because we had a large lead we played a bit relaxed. In between the second and third period we were able to fix things and in the last twenty minutes they played the way they should. I am happy for the win and the three points that we picked up.

DHK-UTE 3-1

The two teams had faced each other five days earlier in Újpest where Debrecen won easily. Debrecen was playing extremely short handed as  Balázs Ladányi has yet to play this season and Róbert Izsák is also out with a leg injury, adding to this Artyom Vaszjunyin is serving his second game in a two game suspension with Ákos Berta getting a one game suspension as well. On the UTE side Teemu Elomo and Péter Gágyor have yet to play this season. Debrecen, who has yet to lose this season stuck with Áfám Vay in net and Újpest countered with József Pleszkán. Norbert Hári opened up the scoring for the home side but in the last minutes of the first period Újpest had a two man advantage that Ákos Kiss capitalized on when he put one past Vay, to send the teams to the locker room tied at 1-1. The teams remained tied, through the second period and half way into the third when Danil Kaskov, who scored the last time the two teams met, to put Debrecen up by one. Minutes later the Russian scored again, this time on the power play. With the win Debrecen remains the only undefeated team in the league and are sitting at the top of the standings.

Debrecen Head Coach Dmitri Romanov: This game resembled the previous game against UTE very much. W dictated the tempo of the game, and we did what we wanted to on the ice. We knew that we were going to play a fast team. Taking penalties have been an issue for us all season, this takes away from the momentum that a team builds. I don't think most of the penalties were actually penalties. I want to thank the boy for the way they played and hustled

FTC-DAB 3-1

Ferencváros hoped to keep pace with the league leaders Debrecen and MAC while Dunaújváros was hoping to build off of the momentum from the win against DVTK. FTC has started to lose players because of injuries. Richárd Hardi will be out for sometime because of health issues, Jimmy Jensen and Tamás Erdély have missed the last few games but now Simon Farkas is also on the injured list. On the other side Dávid Duschek was the only missing player, which means that Breton Lindoff was starting for the visitors in net, Krisztián Budai was in net for Ferencváros. Philipp Bushbacher scored for Dunaújváros in the first five minutes, DAB managed to hold onto the rest of the first period but in the second minute of the second period Edgars Apelis scored a power play goal to make it 1-1. Towards the end of the period Joona Manninen set up Juha Hietamäki for the go ahead goal and the first lead for Ferencváros all game. Early in the third period Vladimir Dubek scored to set the final at 3-1 FTC win.

Head Coach Greg Linqdvist: We started the game poorly and the goal that we let in was preceded by a  mistake. We worked on some things and the break, I congratulate my team but there are still some players that are underperforming.
