After fourteen games DAB.Docler has a five point lead on second placed Nové Zámky in a very strong field that is the MOL League this season. This past week DAB played a close game against Miskolc which was a 2-1 win for Dunaújváros and slipped past Ferencváros also in a 2-1 win. One of the reasons that Dunaújváros did not lose any points this week was because of Dávid Szappanos, who scored in both games, particularly the game winner against FTC with less than two minutes left in regulation. Szappanos has 19 points this season which is good enough to be the team's leading scorer nand he is our MOL League Player of the Week.
What is the secret to DAB.Docler’s success this season?
I wouldn’t say that there is an actual secret, we have a core of Hungarian players who have been together for a number of years and we don't have the turnover of players that other teams usually have.
Head coach Stefan Lundh left his past during the off season after three years, how has the team been able to adjust to the change after Don MacLean took over?
It was not easy at first. We had gotten used to him, he had become a part of everyones lives off the ice and he was a well liked coach. It is always strange when there is a new coach and a new tactic but luckily we have an excellent new coach who we can learn a lot from.
Has the team felt the pressure to win game in and game out since the rest of the league is right behind the team?
We don't really feel the pressure since we are looking at it game by game and we are only concentrating on picking up the three points in the next one.
After winning back to back MOL League titles Dunaújváros was not able to make it three in a row, how has the team been able to overcome this?
Of course this is good motivation for us after winning the two titles and it was surprising that we were not getting back to the championships. It was hard to get over it but we had three week training camp that help us get in the right mindset for the season.
You have played your career entirely in the MOL League, how has the league improved since you played your first game?
The league has changed and improved a tremendously since the start, there are better teams with more good Hungarian players and good young players, who are skilled, the quality of import players has improved as well.
