MOL League Player of the Week: Teemu Elomo

One of the many storylines of the young MOL League season has been how well Újpest has been playing.

For the past number of seasons UTE was found at the bottom of the standings, but things have changed as Újpest is sitting in the sixth and final playoff spot and only two points out of fourth place. This is thanks to a top forward line of import that opposing defencemen recently called the best line in the league, which is lead by Teemu Elomo. Elomo currently leads the league in scoring with 22 points and is second in goals (9) and assists (13). This past week UTE picked up a point on the road at the defending champions Nové Zámky and easily beat cross town rivals Ferencváros, in the two games Elomo had 2 goals and 3assist earing himself the title of MOL League Player of the Week.

“I’m very honored to be picked for this award,” said Elomo when he was asked to answer a some questions.

You have been having a great season so far, what has this been like so far?

Yes it has been going pretty good for myself and I would like to keep playing well, also I have enjoyed my time here in the MOL League so far!

What are your first impressions about the MOL League?

About league I can say is that it has really has some good potential, there are good import players and a number good Hungarians, especially some younger ones. I didn't know anything about the league really before I came to Újpest.

Where do you and your teammates expect UTE to finish this season?

We UTE as a team have one goal and that is to play in the playoffs!

In the past couple of seasons players from Finland have been successful in this league (Anti Ojanen, Mikael Potila, Juha Hietamäki), what might be the reason for this?

Finland always produces good players, there are good coaching systems as well as training systems you learn since you are a young boy, so when players come here they are already well rounded professionals even if they have not played in the highest Finnish league.
