MOL League: update

The Hungarian Ice Hockey Federation (HIHF) had an executive community meeting where among the agenda topics was the MOL League and the questions surrounding the 2015-16 season.

Monday morning the HIHF sent a recommendation package to their Romanian counterparts to which the Romanians had responded to by Monday night. The Romanian Ice Hockey Federation stated that they had no intention of completely reworking the schedule of their league however they are willing to work in cooperation with the HIHF and the MOL League to resolve any issues so that both HSC Csíkszereda and Corona Brasov can compete in both leagues. They also supported the idea of the renegotiation of the HIHF-RIHF deal.

Considering all of this the executive committee of the HIHF and the leadership of the MOL League agreed to help the two Transylvanian clubs as much as they could during the 2015-16 season with the following points:

  • The request by Brasov and Csíkszereda were taken into consideration and an alternative schedule has been drawn up so that the two teams can realistically compete in both the Romanian league as well as the Hungarian. Brasov stated at the League meeting on Friday in Dunaújváros that they will be able to field a large enough roster for both league and therefore less matches will have to be moved.

  • Brasov and Csíkszereda will be allowed to play their MOL League games with a larger number of import players, eight instead of teh usual six.

  • The HIHF and the MOL League will allow the head to head games between the Transylvanian clubs to be played under the rules and regulations of the Romanian League, overtime will be different and import goalies will not be allowed to play.

  • The results of the head to head games will be counted in both the Romanian league as well as the MOL League.

The Hungarian side is willing to be flexible in an effort to work together with their Romanian counterparts and to have the season start with nine teams. The defending champions DVTK Jegesmedvék, Dunaújváros Acélbikák, Corona Brasov Wolves, Debreceni HC, UTE, Ferencváros, HSC Csíkszereda, Fehérvár AV19 and MAC Budapest will start league play on September 11th.
