MOL League: Week 10 Review

2014.11.23. 23:10 |

In a week that was expected to make the playoff picture a lot clearer only one thing looks to be coming clear and that is that Csíkszereda will have a hard time making the playoffs as they are 12 points out of the final playoff spot. The only team to win all their matches this week was Ferencváros who was under pressure from management to pick up at least three points. Dunaújváros is still in first but their lead has slipped to four points.

The week could not have started better for Miskolc, they started the week with a rivalry game against first place DAB.Docler at home. Miskolc took a 3-0 lead after the first period and pulled away for a 6-0 win, Bence Bálizs stood tall in net for the shut out as he stopped all 25 shots he faced. Last weeks player of the week Roland Hajós continued where he left off scoring two out of the six goals

Nové Zámky also had a big game as they had a chance to keep pace with the league leaders or even close the gap but they were playing a Ferencváros team that had an ultimatum from the management that could end up in a deduction of wages. The wake up call worked as Attila Rafaj scored four seconds into the game, FTC lead 5-2 in the early minutes of the third period. Nové Zámky came back to make it an exciting finish but FTC held on for the 5-4 win.

After FTC had upset Nové Zámky UTE was in a situation where three points in Transylvania would be very welcome. Both game in Transylvania on Saturday brought excitement in two 4-3 visitor wins. UTE beat a slumping Brasov as Debrecen travelled to Csíkszereda for the road win as well. The loss to Újpest was the last starw for the Csíkszereda management as head coach Christer Dreberg was let go as well as center Marek Curilla and defencman David Pojkar.

Sunday brought a full slate of games as all eight teams were in action with two out of the four games producing surprise outcomes. Brasov put seven past Debrecen in an easy win with both Árpád Mihály and Martin Saluga scoring a pair of goals each, and UTE picked up a valuable overtime win to stay one point ahead of Ferencváros in the last playoff spot. FTC might have pulled off the upset of the week shutting out Miskolc 2-0 after Miskolc had manhandled DAB earlier in the week. Debrecen lost to both their main rivals as now they only have four point lead over both Miskolc and Nové Zámky and or now on a three game losing streak.
