MOL League: Week 12 Review

2014.12.09. 22:04 |

The 12th week of the MOL League started out as expected with the teams favored to win we're winning, however midway through the week something happened and little of what was expected came to fruition. Miskolc and Nové Zámky are now tied at the top of the table as DAB.Docler has slipped down to third, Újpest looks to be slowly taking a hold of the last playoff spot.

DAB.Docler came to play this week as they started the week by crushing Ujpest 7-0 with Zsolt Azari leading the way with four goals. This was an important win as it was a great way to set the tone for the rest of the week, unfortunately this is where everything went wrong. Dunaújváros lost on the road to Debrecen 4-2 who was lead by Dusan Sijka who netted two goals. The league lead slipped away to Slovak rivals Nové Zámky at the end of the week in a close 3-2 loss, Martin Frolik had a brace that put him tied for the league lead in goals.

For the first time all season Miskolc did not pick up a single point in a home game. The week started out with a shootout win against Ferencváros, a team that they always have trouble with, they followed this up with a dominating win against Csíkszereda where Tihamér Becze registered a hat trick against his former team. The final game of the week was against a strong Debrecen team that will only be getting better as players will be getting into midseason form as they are coming back off of the injured list. Miskolc had a one goal lead heading into the third period but three unanswered Debrecen goals sunk their ship. Miskolc played the week without Tyler Metcalfe who is still out with an injury and Jesse Dudas who was suspended for three games.

Of the three front runners for the MOL League race Nové Zámky as they picked up eight out of the possible nine points during the week. They got past Brasov at home in a 3-2 shootout win, Erik Caladi scored twice in the last five minutes to send the game into overtime. NZ played close matches all through the rest of the week as they were tied 3-3 with five minutes left against UTE when Juraj Durco and Marek Dubec each scored a goal to secure the win.

The Debrecen closed out the best week so far in their young history, as mentioned earlier they knocked off both DAB.Docler and Miskolc with ease, they started the week like a team that is in peak form as they beat up Csíkszereda 8-2, to pick up all nine points in the week and have opened up six point lead over Újpest and are 11 points clear of Ferencváros who is the first team out of the playoffs.

Brasov split their two games in Budapest as Patrik Polc pitched a 5-0 shutout against FTC, the five Brasov goals were scored by five different players. Against UTE they came up short, Újpest opened up a 4-0 lead by the middle of the game before Csanád Fodor spoiled the shutout that József Pleszkán had going, Brasov was able to cut it to a one goal game but a late empty net goal ended up setting the final score at 5-3.

Csíkszereda picked up their first road win of the season in a 3-2 overtime win against Ferencváros, the Transylvanian squad was lead by Michal Satek as he scored a hattrick.
