MOL League: Week 15 Review

2014.12.31. 12:13 |

As another week has come to a conclusion the bottom eight teams have stayed in the same order with Újpest having a two point lead over Ferencváros for the final playoff spot. At the head of the standings Miskolc is in first with a one point lead over DAB.Docler, who is one point up on Nové Zámky.

It could be said that three teams were satisfied with the way they played this past week, the other five teams all played one game where they were truly disappointed in the outcome. Brasov continued their good fortune against their rivals Csíkszereda as they won 3-2, and picked up another three points against the visiting Ferencváros in a 6-4 win, Martin Saluga lead all scorers with two goals. With the six points Brasov is four behind Nové Zámky.

Last place Csíkszereda could be happy as they played a close game against Brasov but were able to pick up their second regulation win of the season as they held a 3-0 lead at the midway point of the game before holding on for a 4-2 win, a big part of the win was Ede Mihály’s two goals.

The top two teams in the league faced off against each other as Miskolc won 4-1 against Dunaújváros on home ice, the game was close until the home team was able to pull away in the third period as Bence Bálizs played great in net. After picking up three points against the league leaders Miskolc hosted their other rivals for the title Nové Zámky, and disposed of them easily as well. Tyler Metcalfe had a huge game as he scored two goals and assisted on another two in a 5-2 win that has Miskolc in first place.

After the loss to Miskolc DAB.Docler had mixed results the rest of the week, they shut out Debrecen 6-0 behind the goaltending of Janis Kalnins but struggled against UTE in a 3-2 shootout win, interestingly Dunaújváros has yet to lose to UTE but every time the games are close contests deep into the third period.

Debrecen ended up being shut out twice in one week as they were also unable to put the puck past Lukas Cikánek and the defence of Nové Zámky, after a scoreless first period NZ exploded  for six goals in the second period with Martin Frolik scoring a hat trick in the game. DHK did manage to pick up a win against UTE against whom they have opened up a ten point lead.
