MOL League: Week 2 Review

2014.09.29. 12:52 |

After five games there is only one team undefeated team left in the MOL League and every team has at least one win. The teams played two games this past weekend but it is still early for anyone to pull away in the standings or someone to drop off the pace of the rest.

Miskolc continued to keep their strong performance as they put a beating on UTE 9-1, by all accounts this score was somewhat surprising as UTE has improved a lot from last season. Zach Cohen finished with four goals with David Coleman scoring the lone Újpest goal.

Ferencváros struggled at times with Debrecen at home even though DHK was playing with only two lines for most of the game. FTC was able to close out the victory with a scramble in front of the net. It will be interesting to see how long DHK will be able to keep this pace with so few healthy squad members. David Croteau contributed to all three Ferencváros goals as the forward finished with two goals and an assist.

After DAB.Docler beat Brasov at home 4-3 in OT the teams played in Brasov with Dunaújváros coming out on top again, this time with a 3-1 win. It was close match throughout all of the game as the third DAB.Docler goal was not scored until Brasov pulled Patrik Polc for the extra attacker.

Csíkszereda has been riding two goals so far this season, this time the veteran Stanislav Kozuch got the start and he did not disappoint. DAB.Docler looked like the the previous nights game and the travel was still in their legs as HSC was up 3-0 by the ten minute mark and had a 3-1 lead after the first period. The visitors bench netminder Márk Hajek in favor of Janis Kalnins and were able to fight back to send the game to overtime but Huba Bors scored the game winner as HSC registered their first win of the season and DAB losing for the first time.

The other Transylvania game on Saturday was a rematch of last years finals as Brasov played host to Nové Zámky. The rest was the same as the last game between these two teams with NZ winning. The score was on the lopsided end as Brasov lost 7-2. After the first period the game was 3-2 in favor of the visitors before they pulled away in the later part of the game. Seven different players found the back of the net for NZ, on the Brasov side coach Miroslav Ihnacak resigned after the game.

Csíkszereda tried to make it two in row against the reigning champions Nové Zámky, the game was tied up until the final two minutes when Juraj Faith scored his third goal of the game. This was the first time this season that HSC started with the game goalie in net in back to back games.

The final game of the weekend brought arguably the best environment as Újpest played host to Ferencváros in the first Budapest derby of the season. UTE looked to end a losing streak that went all the way back to the beginning of 2013. UTE jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first period, but FTC was able to come back to make it 2-2. The final score was already set after the second period with a 5-3 win for Újpest.
