Nagy: We are building Something

One day after announcing that they have signed a national team goalie MAC Budapest signed their second signing as well. Krisztián Nagy is back with his parent club.

Balázs Kangyal had already approached Nagy about joining MAC just as the season ended “he told me that he really wants me in the team, since I played 10 years for them and they want to build the whole thing on their young and upcoming players, I had a few options from other countries.” naturally with this and that Nagy is also in the middle of his studies helped him make his decision. Interestingly enough before the third exhibition game against Austria which he did not play in Krisztián was doing his statistics homework on a laptop in the press area. Also he asked that he could do the interview with icehockey.hu later because he has an exam to study for. “I am in the middle of university studies so I would like to finish that up, but also I did not get an offer from Miskolc, I thought that was a bit strange but they know what they are doing.” said Nagy

The young national team forward who is a month short of his 21st birthday has been a staple of the Hungarian squad for three seasons with his blue collar style of play. Nagy grew up in Budapest and started his hockey career with MAC before spending two seasons in Finland, he came back to the MOL League for a season before spending a season playing juniors in the U.S. This past season he won the treble with Miskolc and finished the memorable season with a promotion to the A Pool for the 2016 world championships.

When asked what the fans of MAC Budapest can expect from an expansion team in the MOL League Krisztián could only use superlatives as he talked about the club and the teammates that have already signed. “We have a good goalie in Bence (Bákizs), he was my teammate and roommate in Miskolc last season,he has a hard working mentality so in the net we are not going to have any problems. (Dávid) Szappanos is a goal scorer and that is what you can not have enough in a team, we are building something with great potential for next season.”

Despite his young age he could be silent leader both on and off the ice, with the added benefit of playing back home again.

Nagy becomes the sixth player from the world championship roster to switch clubs this offseason.
