The MOL League has just finished up but we already have two coaching changes out of the eight teams. Miskolc has decided to go with a Hungarian coach with Gergő Majoross after having foreign coaches the past couple of seasons. In Újpest after years of finishing at the bottom of the table the team has decided to go with Zoltán Szilassy who last year had been a youth coach with the club.

Both of the new coaches are young, recently retired players who have proven in their short coaching careers that they can be reliable at the next level in the MOL League.

Gergely Majoross started his playing career with Ferenceváros while spending one season in the US playing juniors in the WSHL. He made his debut with the Hungarian national team at the age of 19 before moving on to Fehérvár for nine seasons. Majoross came back to Budapest when the Budapest Stars were formed, after two years with the Stars he spent his last season of his playing career split between Ferencváros and his current employer Miskolc.

With the national team he played in the old B-pool, Division 1/A and was part of the team that won promotion to the A-pool in Sapporo and his last game with the national team was in Switzerland in the world championships.

Majoross jumped head first into coaching right after he retired, coached a number of youth teams with MAC Budapest as well as being an assistant coach in the national team program. At the 2013 world championships he was the senior team’s video coordinator, this year he is one of the two assistant coaches working with Rich Chernomaz.

As a player Zoltán Szilassy played for just about every club in Hungary, starting his pro career with his current employer Újpest before moving on to Fehérvár where he spent six seasons before moving on to the cross county rivals Dunaújváros for eight out of his last ten seasons, he had a two year stint in Ferencváros.

Szilassy was a staple of both Fehérvér and Dunaújváros for many years but only played for Hungary at the world championships on one occasion, in 1994. After hanging up the skates Szilassy was the assistant coach at DAB.Docler for the first part of his coaching career.

Last year was his first year back in Újpest as youth coach before being promoted to the senior team.
