After a tight win in game one Nové Zámky looked to have a 2-0 lead as the series would head to Brasov.

The home fans did not have to wait long for the first goal as 80 seconds in Erik Weissmann took a long shot that looked to catch Brasov’s keeper Patrik Polc by surprise and went in. As the game continued it was evident by the atmosphere in the arena that this was a playoff game. The first period ended with the home team up 1-0 with both teams being on the power play, it looked as will the refs did not really want to blow the whistle too much. This being said Zsolt Bálint did get a 2+10 in the period.

The second period was a lot more action packed compared to the first 20 minutes. Martin Saluga took a slap shot from the blue line that Jan Chovan deflected but was unable to control the rebound that Csaba Nagy put past Chovan to make it 1-1. Less than two minutes later Brasov took the lead when Saluga fired a shot past the keeper. Ten minutes later Marek Uram tied it up at 2-2 after a scrum in front of the net.

Then in the third period things got tense but the refs did not call anything until there was under two minutes left in the game, which players and coaches from both teams made a note of, Levente Zsók was sent to the penalty box but Nové Zámky was not able to take advantage of the power play and the game went to overtime. As the power play spilled into overtime the teams skated 4 on 3 but Nové Zámky only needed 28 seconds as Vladimir Kames scored the game winner.

“The team made a great effort, they were fighting till the end, I think we played great, we scored two goals,” said Brasov assistant coach Greg Lindqvist after the game. “It hurts that we lost in OT, now we go back to Brasov with two new games and we will be back in Nové Zámky for sure.”

When asked about the upcoming two games in Brasov defencemen Kevin Wehrs had this to say “we have a lot of confidence in our home rink and we have the best fans in the league.”

“It was a tough game tonight, they skated better, but I think we were the better team in the second half of the game. For us the third period was great,” said Nové Zámky forward Peter Polcik.
