Sunday in Moscow the International Ice Hockey Federation inducted Gábor Ocskay Jr. into the Hall of Fame.
With the IIHF finishing up its annual congress all that was left was the bronze and gold medal matches of the World Championships and for Hungarians the induction of Gábor into the Hall of Fame.
Gábor Ocskay Jr. was inducted into the hall through the Richard “Bibi” Torrian award, which is given to outstanding players from non hockey nations. The award was given posthumously to Ocskay who was represented by his father Gábor Ocskay Sr. and his sibling Zsuzsanna Ocskay.
“We know that this award is not only for Gábor but also Szkesfehérvár, for Alba Volán, for the Hungarian Ice Hockey Federation, and for all of Hungarian Ice Hockey, because without them Gábor could not have accomplished what he did.”said Zsuzsanna Ocskay on the Fehérvár AV19 website. “This was thanks to great teamwork, the family and the Hungarian hockey family have been keeping what he stood for alive. His name is on the hockey club and the academy that has been operating since 2009, this is how we remember Gábor.”
With the induction of Gábor Ocskay Jr. there are three Hungarian members of the Hall of Fame, György Pásztor was inducted in 2001 and László Schell in 2009.
