The MOL Season finally kicks off tonight night when MAC Budapest will host Újpest at 20:30 in the Tüskecsarnok.
Both teams are waiting for the season to start as UTE will be wearing commemorative jerseys all season for the 60th anniversary of the hockey division of the club, where as MAC will be playing their first season in the MOL League. UTE has been building a strong club step by step in the last couple of seasons as they ended a playoff drought with their first round playoff loss last season. This year the team hopes to make it to the semifinals. Last season the purple and white were carried by a line of imports, this season they also picked up a number of solid Hungarian players.
MAC on the other hand have had a strong youth system and now are moving on to the next step of their long term plan. The team has brought in championship winning coach Gergely Majoross and signed a number of national team players and a line of import to surround a the younger players that will be the depth of the team. This team could resemble the old Budapest Stars.
It will be interesting to see what will happen since the last time these two teams faced each other was in the qualification o f the Hungarian Cup where the MAC U20 squad got under the skin of the UTE players in a game in which the purple and white won handly.
The original league schedule had to be changed because Brasov was not able to reschedule their game with Steaua Bucharest this weekend, because of this the club will not be traveling to Hungary for their weekend matches. The Friday night game at Dunáújváros was moved to December 7th and the game at Debrecen will be on October 6th, with the DVTK game now being October 28th.
