Diósgyőr who won the MOL League last season is off to a great start this season and have pulled away in the standings. They won all three games this past week including a shutout win against third place MAC Budapest and a low scoring one goal win against second place Debrecen. One of the reasons for the success was great goaltending and because of this Attila Adorján is this week Player of the Week.
Adoriján comes from Csíkszereda and is currently is the league leader in save percentage, his career has taken large strides in the past two seasons since left the HSC Csíkszereda U18 team. Attila took time out of his busy schedule to answer some questions for icehockey.hu
This is your second season in Miskolc, how have you liked it?
I love being here, all the opportunities are here for me to develop, that's why I came here two years ago. I fit right in from the start, the management and the coaches are always ready to help, and I have a couple of former teammates who are with the club.
Last season you didn't really have any chances outside of the U20 to play regularly, this season you were thrown into the deep water with you also young goaltending partner, what was it like when you find out you would be playing regularly in the MOL League?
Last season I was only called up for a couple of practices, i was very happy for the games and I really wanted to prove myself. At first I was nervous, which was expected, but I tried to get over that quickly. I have been playing well because of the trust that my teammates put in me.
How difficult was the transitions from the junior team to the senior squad?
There is a big difference between the two, the shots and the passes are a lot faster, I needed some time to adjust to the pace of everything, which I have done.
Mark Guggenberger is injured right now but where you able to pick up anything from him at the start of the season?
Yes I did, he played in some top leagues, I have been watching him closely, but because of his injury he hasn't really been on the ice with us.
How much of an influence has Jukka Kontsas been on you since you have been with the club and what's it like to have him as an assistant as well?
Jukka has been a great help since I have been with the club, with him I would not be where I am right now. He has been great both on and off the ice, he has helped me identify my weaknesses and to work on them. He still works with the goalies as he did before but know he is with the team all the time, and he always has a couple of useful word during the games as well.
You still have one more season to play juniors, do you and the coaching staff have a plan on how you will play U20 and in the MOL league, or is it only the MOL from now on?
I will be playing at both levels, me and the other young goalies will split time at the U20 like we have all season.
