Player of the Week: Erik Weissmann

Nové Zámky is back on top of the table in the MOL League after a 3-2 win over DAB.Docler, the providing the goal scoring iin teh game for NZ was Erik Weissmann who scored all three goals and now has four goal and three assists for a total of seven points in three games since he is back in Nové Zámky, because of this he is this weeks Player of the Week.

Weissmann just started his second stint with Nové Zámky, spent all of last season with the club where he finished second in the league in scoring with 61 points in 49 games az NZ went on to win their first MOL League title. After the season it was expected to leave the club for two reasons, first of all after have such a great year he was expected to be picked up by a team from a stronger league, secondly he was not exactly favorite among his teammates in the locker room. In the finals against Brasov he chose not to travel to Brasov for games three and four, which NZ ended up splitting. For game five back home Robert Spisak named Weissmann in the lineup just in case he would be needed but did not dress him. At the start of the third period with the game tied at two Weissmann enter the game but Brasov ended up scoring a late third goal for the win. When asked why he did not play in the first two periods he said “ask the coach”.

In the offseason he signed with Slavia Praha, where he was teammates with János Vas, but the management was not happy with is performance, after a failed tryout with Beibarys Atyrau in Kazakhstan he was looking for a new team, with the recent coaching change Nové Zámky seemed like the perfect fit for Erik.

Erik Weissmann come from Pozsony and made his professional debut with Slovan Bratislava before embarking on a career that had him stepping on the ice for 19 different clubs in nine different league in seven countries.

Some of his more notable stops outside of the Slovak Extra league were Pontebba in Italy, Lada Togliatti in the KHL and HC Zlin in the Czech Republic.

Either way he is a he has a scoring touch that any team would love to have, in the end he might be the difference maker for Nové Zámky to repeat as champions or not.
