Player of the Week: Jussi Tapio

Újpest is sitting in the final playoff spot and six points clear of their rivals Ferencváros, after picking up six out of six points last week against Debrecen they have closed the gap to eight points and have a game in hand. One of the biggest reasons for this was the play of Jussi Tapio who had a goal and three assist in the two games and is this weeks Player of the Week.

What is your opinion about the skill level in the MOL League?

I think that this league is at an ok level, every year level of hockey is getting better and will be getting better, you have to remember that Hungary does not have a big hockey culture. There needs to be some work done at the  junior level here, they need to work more with basic things when they are young such as skating, shooting, passing and tactics.

What can be expected from UTE in these last few weeks of the season?

Our goal is to make the playoffs, once we do that anything can happen.

How helpful is it to have another Finn in the team such as Teemu Elomo?

Off course it is great help that Teemu is here, it s nice that we can talk everyday in our own language, because we play in same line. For me it is easier to come new team when you know someone already on the team.

If you were trying to convince one of your former teammates from Finland to play in the MOL League what points would you bring up.

What is great here is that most of the trips are short, no long bus rides, you are in the middle of Europe and the weather is nicer than back home. It would be a new experience for almost all hockey players. There are a number of things that are different compared to back home but you just have to be opened minded and lets go!
