With the first match week finishing up, the MOL League has its first player of the week. Fehérvár AV19 has picked up three points in their first three games and are tied for the league lead in goals scored, led by a forward who is leading the league in scoring with 3 goals and 3 assists. Because of this, this week’s player of the week is Mitch Holmberg.

Holmberg comes from Sherwood Park, Alberta, Canada and is in his first season of hockey in Europe after spending last season in the ECHL split between the Bakersfield Condors and the Elmira Jackals. Before turning pro he played for the Spokane Chiefs of the WHL where he lead the league in scoring. Mitch took time out of his busy schedule to answer a some questions for icehockey.hu.

How has the first week of the season been?

It has been really good, the games have been hard fought games and the crowds have been crazy.

What do you think of the league so far?

I think it's a competitive league that you can't take a night off in, the games have been hard but it's been a fun time so far.

What was the major reason for you that you signed with Fehérvár AV19?

I heard some good things about it here I had a buddy (Derek Ryan) who had played for the EBEL team so he helped me with my decision. Also Tyler Dietrich was a coach I could tell I wanted to play for so he made my decision to come here a lot easier.

How do you like Hungary and the town of Fehérvár so far?

I love it so far, it's been a little different but it has been amazing, the city is beautiful and I can't wait to explore more of Hungary soon.
