Rokko is crowned Hungarian champions after a thrilling come from behind win over Györ.
After the group stage being played the week before, this weekend was the final 4 with Marczi Skate taking on Győri ETO HC and Rokko facing MAC Budapest. Both semi final matchups were tight games. Győr got past Marczi in a 3-0 win, with Bence Bálizs and Krisztián Budai combining for the shut out. On the other side an Adrián Toth goal and an empty netter by Attila Rafaj put Rokko past a MAC who was missing a number of key players.
After two low scoring games in the semis the bronze and gold medal games made up for the missing goals. The veteran Maczi Skate team beat the young MAC squad 11-5 with Szilárd Sándor scoring a hattrick for Marczi.
In the gold medal match Győr had a 4-1 lead in the second half but Rokko was able to climb back into the game and tie it up. Rafaj converted a penalty shot to give Rokko the 5-4 lead, in the closing minutes Ákos Kiss had hit the post twice. In the closing minute of the game Rokko scored two empty net goals to set the final at 7-4.
Attila Rafaj: We knew we couldnt give up, we are here be love this sport and we don't step on the playing surface just to lose, everyone got themselves together We had two great chances that we took advantage of to get back to 4-3. We played smart and held onto the puck, we werent really throwing it around that might turn into a counter attack. We played smart and stuck to the game plan.
Zoltán Revák: After a three goal lead we mentally relaxed and we defeated ourselves, the penalty that was given at 4-4 could be questionable after that we had to pull our goalie.
