The last two Hungarian teams participating in the Rookie Cup stepped on the ice this past weekend with mixed results.
The multinational U16 tournament that is a joint project of the EBEL and the European Union closed out its group stages this past weekend as the final two groups were in action in Ljubljana and St.Pölten.
In Ljubljana MAC Budapest breezed through their group with a perfect record thanks to a high scoring offense, the team scored at least seven goals in every game and the closest that any of the opponents got was four goals.

They were able to get past clubs with some prestigious hockey history such as Graz and Medvescak Zagreb with the scores of 8-4 and 9-3 respectively and got past the host club 7-2

Miskolc traveled to St.Pölten Austria where they took on the U16 squads of HK Triglav Kranj, EC RedBull Salzburg and Südtirol. Unfortunately they were not as successful as the other Hungarian clubs in the Rookie Cup.

Miskolc started the weekend well as they beat Südtirol on the opening day 4-2, on the second day they had real problems with the hockey product producing machine, RedBull as they lost to the Salzburg team 6-1. On the last day they lost out to eventual champions Triglav Kranj in a close battle 3-1 to finish third in the group.

Hungarian sides Fehérvár AV19 and MAC Budapest, who finished first and second in the Hungarian U16 league will play for the inaugural Rookie Cup in Salzburg Austria on the weekend of April 9th-12th.
