Scouting Report: U20 Kazakhstan

2014.12.18. 05:20 |

Hungary will be taking on Kazakhstan as their fourth opponent during the U20 World championship, with a loss Hungary will be eliminated from the race for promotion and Kazakhstan will have pretty much locked up the title.

Kazakhstan is coached by Sergei Starygin who has been involved with the Kazakh youth system for the past fifteen years.

Starygin has two very good keepers to choose from who have been teammates at every level of the national team. Yuri Volosenko has been playing in the MHL for three years now whereas Valeri Sevidov is playing in the Kazakh league and both are playing meaningful minutes.

The defencemen like the goalie either play in the MHL or in the national league, and most of them have been part of the U20 and previously the U18 teams for a number of years now. There are tree players that stick out over the rest, Madiar Ibraybekov, Vladimir Mezhebistky and Ivan Stepanenko are the ones to keep an eye on.

The forwards have a number of MHL players but the older skaters are spending the season with senior teams either in the Kazakh league of the VHL. There are four forwards that are back from  last years U20 and have been racking up points, Arkadi Shestakov, Kirill Savitsky, Nikita Mikhailis, Ivan Kinstler and Dmitri Grents.
