Semi Finals MVP: Matt Boyle

2015.02.27. 10:00 |

Miskolc has just closed out their MOL League semifinals series against Brasov in a four game sweep. There have been a number of factors for the excellent performance by the club, great goaltending, shut down defending and timely scoring. Miskolc defenceman Matt Boyle had three goals, two assists and helped shut down the top scoring line for Brasov, because of this he is the semi finals MVP.

Miskolc head coach Gergely Majoross had this to say about him: “He is our most consistent D-man, great defensive player, strong, aggressive, and not a lot of fun to play against. He works hard every game and gets his job done, when you have a D like that and you add his scoring it is every team's dream. His goal tied the first game with less than a minute left, second game he score 2 goals. He had the best +/- in the regular season in the whole league. Before the season he was considered one of the best defensive defenseman in the league, now he has developed into a great all-round defenceman.”

What will it take Miskolc to defeat Nové Zámky in the finals?
In order for us to be successful in the finals against Nove Zamky we will have to play a smart physical game.  We will have to play with a lot of energy while still remaining in position. This is a very skilled team so we will need to make sure we are always in position.

What has been the biggest difference between this teams squad and last years?
The biggest difference this season is the depth of our team and our ability to play as a team. This year we are not relying on one player or line.  Each line is able to contribute and has a role to play in our success.

What made you decide to come back to Hungary for a second season?
I really enjoyed my first season playing in Hungary, I really enjoyed the food and culture away from the rink. The fans here in Miskolc were very welcoming and made me feel at home. My teammates were great and I wasn't ready to stop playing with such a great group of guys. I could see the potential we had with our team and wanted to be a part of it. The management with the organization has also always treated me great so it wasn't a difficult decision to come back to Miskolc.

With you playing two straight seasons in Hungary has the idea playing for the Hungarian national team cross your mind?

If there was ever an opportunity for myself to play on the national team I think it would be a great honor to represent this country .
